We randomly decided that we wanted a night away. Both of us always enjoy staying in Lancaster so thats where we decided to go, just for the night. In this post we are going to talk about staying at the Holiday Inn for the first time, how cold Lancaster is in January and our favourite place to get pizza (not just in Lancaster, our favourite place anyway).
Better late than never? The end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 have been a little harder than we’d have liked but that shouldn’t stop the blogging! This post is a little insight into what we are going to do and what we would like to do in 2019.
We hope you all have a fantastic year!
So part one of our Berlin blog was primarily about what we budgeted for Berlin, and an overall of what we did/what was going on while we were there.
Part two of our Berlin blog is going to be what we did, what we would recommend and any tips that we would suggest for you if you’re planning on visiting Berlin.
We call it the ‘Dog Cottage’ because we go once a year to a cottage that allows you to take your dogs with you and we take 2 dogs; a chihuahua and a labrador.
We looked at a cottage that was near to some nice walks that us and the dogs could enjoy, it also helps to stay active and not be shopping. We had several requirements that included; a fenced garden so the dogs cannot get out, nice clean and spacious cottage, 2 bedrooms and a large garden.
So we haven’t yet done a post about our experience flying with Virgin, this is because we wanted to do both journeys together. In this post we will include: inflight entertainment, the food, the staff and how the flights were generally.
We have already done a post about the V-room and Manchester airport as well as post including Orlando International airport.
This day should be packing, checking out of the hotel, feeling like you’ve forgotten something and heading for the airport.
Well we did our packing 2 days before, because we knew the night before we would be to tired. So it was just a case of putting in the last bits like clothes we’d worn, make up, brushes, toiletries etc. Then do a scan of the place to make sure we have everything, and leave a final tip for housekeeping (we put all the drinks and stuff we had left that hadn’t been opened in a pile on the dining room table along with a cash tip).
I’m not going to kid anyone, I started packing about a month ago! Why not? All the clothes I want for Orlando aren’t going to be worn in the Winter in the UK; shorts, t-shirts, sandals etc. But packing over a month in advance does also mean re-packing a few times (maybe 4 or 5 times for me). However it also means you’ll know what things you have forgotten by the third re-pack as well as things you need to go out and buy such as suncream, shaving gel, etc.
You’ll never be finished packing until the morning you leave for the plane but you can be as close as possible!
So we decided a month or so ago that we wanted to buy new suitcases. This is because neither of us has bought a suitcase for years and ours are super heavy compared to the new light weight ones. I personally also wanted ones that matched, because I knew I wanted a cabin case as well as a suitcase and they should be the same design for me. So we had to consider, the sizes, weight, design and where we were getting them from.
Back in October we had gone for a long 4 day weekend to Edinburgh and when we got home we had enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to book a long weekend again but for Glasgow. So by November, we had a look and made the decision to stay in the town centre this time so we wouldn’t need to drive around.
With the hotel booked we just needed to decide who’s car we would go in and what to pack but this wasn’t decided until the week before. The decision came to me driving as we can both drive my car, which makes it easier.
Now came packing:
I know its June and everything but still packing is hard, especially when you think Scotland is a rainy place. So to be safe I went with a bit of both spring and summer clothes. A few shorts, a couple of skirts and tights just incase it got chilly, and some jeans. I also packed a leather jacket, a hoodie and a suede jacket, simply because I don’t know what to wear.
