So this is not our first time to Alton Towers (as you can imagine), however it was our first time seeing the all new Wicker Man ride that they had to offer.
It has been a good 2 or 3 years since we last stepped foot into Alton Towers, though not a lot has changed. Alton Towers has a lot to offer, if you don’t like rides but still want to go when all of your friends do then don’t worry. Alton Towers has wonderful gardens that you can go walking through! The gardens are stunning and are located in the middle of the park.
This day should be packing, checking out of the hotel, feeling like you’ve forgotten something and heading for the airport.
Well we did our packing 2 days before, because we knew the night before we would be to tired. So it was just a case of putting in the last bits like clothes we’d worn, make up, brushes, toiletries etc. Then do a scan of the place to make sure we have everything, and leave a final tip for housekeeping (we put all the drinks and stuff we had left that hadn’t been opened in a pile on the dining room table along with a cash tip).
Better late than never with a blog post? Due to it being at the end of the holiday this post comes a couple of days late. Currently I don’t know what day or time my body clock is on, but I do know this was an amazing and super fun day!!
The only park we didn’t make it to on day 13 was Epcot, but we also didn’t actually plan to go to so many parks. It just sort of happened, but it was a great way to bring this holiday to a close.
There is no day 10 due to the fact we barley did anything. We had a leisurely day to have a break from running around the parks, had a nice bbq lunch at the hotel (a blog about the hotel will come soon), and a little bit of shopping. Plans changed and we ended up going to Hollywood Studios, but we only did 3 rides and came home again. Which due to a 15 minute drive and not paying to park it was worth it.
However today we went back again to Universal Studios. There was nothing new, no new rides, and no new rides to go on etc. Plus we’ve talked about the rides on our previous posts this holiday about Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure.
A day away from the parks means a day at the beach. Clearwater Beach to be exact, we already knew we were going here as we had planned it. Clearwater is 2 hours away from where we are staying but we have heard good things, which was why we decided to go.
A 2-hour drive requires a good breakfast! So we went to Denny’s. Not sure what to expect it was filled with locals and tourists all wanting breakfast of course. We had a look through the menu and decided on pecan pancakes. Denny’s was nice, but due to the amount of customers the service was a little slow, but this didn’t bother us.
Today we opted for a more chilled out kind of day. We started with a 24c sunny swim in our pool at 9am (you can’t do that in the UK!) then headed out to start our day.
We had planned this chilled day in advance as we wanted something as a small break for the theme parks – so we opted to go shopping! When we say shopping what we really mean is a walk around some of the malls, with no particular purpose or requirement to buy anything! That said there were a few things we did need.
This is going to be a long one, we spent nearly 15 hours at Magic Kingdom! The park opened at 8 am, however we had breakfast reservations anyway at 8am, and did not close until midnight! That is a very long day for anyone. At least we did enough steps and we reached our Apple Watch goals for exercise for the day (and then some).
I’m not going to talk about everything that we did, however I will leave a list at the end in case anyone wants to ask any questions, as we can only answer about things that we have done.
I don’t know if it was excitement or what, but I got up dressed and ready within half an hour. This was a very big day, first ever time at Magic Kingdom and with breakfast as well! After a little unplanned detour (we got lost), we finally made it to Magic Kingdom and were in such a rush to get through the park that we missed most of the photo opportunities.
It’ll be both of our first time in America ever. Therefore there is a nice list of places that we want to go to while we are there. Some of them are Florida related others just simply ‘American’, mainly food places. It’s more of a food list than anything else, nevertheless they are all places we want to go.
Recently we decided to plan out our 2 weeks there and realised there might be a chance we don’t get to go to all of these places. Especially as we are doing Disney and Universal as well which will take up a lot of our time out there.
Recently, we have been trying to get an 8am reservation for the Be Our Guest restaurant in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, this is difficult to say the least! At first we had been loading the My Disney app or website (this hack works for both!) picking the restaurant and choosing a date. Then under the “Time” drop down menu, we had been choosing “Breakfast” – logic would say that this is an ok thing to do, we want to eat during breakfast, so pick breakfast… but no!
After the long walking and never finding an end to the shops and the town we decided that for today we would get the train into town and see how much further we could go. Initially the plan was to hop on the Sightseeing bus, but after a phone call we found out that there is a 10K run and the buses would not be running till 2:30pm. So we opted for the train, as it was only 1 stop, 2 mins and cost £2.50 for both of us (who can complain). Despite getting the train and not walking in, we still did just as much walking as the day before!!
We had a plan, to leave the hotel around 9:30, get into town, have a little walk around and then go to the cinema to see ‘The Mummy’ (we see a new film pretty much every week!!). We booked the film in advance so we knew we would need to get to the cinema for about 11am. When we went and got the train, we got off at Glasgow Queen Street station and walked around the corner, to which we discovered what was both the half way point and the finish line for the 10K run. The 10K was a mens race, and is for male suicide, it is held every year and can be entered online. It was great to stand and cheering people on at the half way line and then about 10 mins later the first people were crossing the finish line – some of them didn’t even look like they had just ran 10k, I was proud of the people passing the 5k mark because I don’t think I would be able to do that!
