We like to fill January with random days out, especially with ‘January Blues’ it is nice to stay busy. So we randomly came across this ‘secret nuclear bunker’ online – we sometimes just Google ‘things to do in …….’ and pick an area just to see if there’s anything we’ve not done.
The Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker is a former government-owned nuclear bunker located at Hack Green, Cheshire.
We randomly decided that we wanted a night away. Both of us always enjoy staying in Lancaster so thats where we decided to go, just for the night. In this post we are going to talk about staying at the Holiday Inn for the first time, how cold Lancaster is in January and our favourite place to get pizza (not just in Lancaster, our favourite place anyway).
Better late than never? The end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 have been a little harder than we’d have liked but that shouldn’t stop the blogging! This post is a little insight into what we are going to do and what we would like to do in 2019.
We went for a little trip to get into the festive mood; seeing some Christmas markets! We went down to the south UK to see Christmas markets in Winchester, Southampton and London. We love seeing the Christmas lights and eating caramelised nuts and sautéed potatoes! (We basically go for the food).
We call it the ‘Dog Cottage’ because we go once a year to a cottage that allows you to take your dogs with you and we take 2 dogs; a chihuahua and a labrador.
We looked at a cottage that was near to some nice walks that us and the dogs could enjoy, it also helps to stay active and not be shopping. We had several requirements that included; a fenced garden so the dogs cannot get out, nice clean and spacious cottage, 2 bedrooms and a large garden.
The Sheraton Vistana Villages – International Drive, (not to be confused with the Sheraton Vistana Resort) is where we decided to stay for our 2 week trip to Orlando. This is a large villa complex located on international drive, midway between both the Disney and Universal theme parks.
The drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO) took about 30 minutes, and the route is fairly straight forward. You will most likely go via a toll road, but this wasn’t a problem as our Alamo car rental included the Sunpass facility.
Last weekend we decided (only about 10 days before) that we wanted to go for a trip to the South of England. I got to choose the hotel and so we went to Maidenhead – as that’s where I grew up and I haven’t been back for a long time.
I did the driving, because I enjoy long distance driving; listening to music and singing along! On the journey down we stopped a few times due to car issues but it also gave us the chance to stretch our legs and get some lunch. There was barley any traffic, given that it was a Friday and we were traveling through rush hour, we got very lucky!
Being able to afford random weekends away or day trips out isn’t always easy. Especially considering I work a minimum wage job, and work around 26 hours a week. Combine this with having my own outgoings (such as my car, bills, food, etc) there is not much left over to spend on the month.
I’m writing this blog with a smile on my face because despite my lack of money and complaints, we have just booked another little weekend away and it includes a trip back to where I grew up! I am super excited.
Here I will discuss a number of ways that you can make your money go further and have fun with it. This month I got one of my lowest wages and we are going for 2 long weekends away and have just bought ourselves Merlin Annual Passes. So if you really want to do something you will find a way to do it.
You know when you wake up knowing it’s your last day of holiday and you have to pack? It’s never as fun doing this packing as it is before you go away. Nevertheless it has to be done! When packing for coming home, we do this very differently! I like to pack as neatly as I did when I left my house, but with dirty and clean clothes separated, however Martin just shoves all the dirty clothes into a bag a zips it shut – everyone’s different.
For the final time, we woke up and got ready for the day. Back to driving today, we had to get the car park ticket stamped at reception to get a discounted price, but it still came to a whooping £47 that we were both very surprised at! When looking at hotels check the parking if you do travel by car and maybe call them up to find out exactly how much it will be if you’re going on a budget. A quick trip for fuel, and a DIY clean for the wind screen because it had that many dead bugs on it, it was hard to see out of the wind screen. Martin made a little mix of coke and water (A LOT more water than coke) and gave it a good scrub.
