So we have had one in the past and it was great! I was living in Winchester and Martin up north, which meant that we had access to pretty much all the parks and attractions easily (or at least without a hotel).

We actually only wanted to go for a little trip to the Blackpool tower and go to the circus, but after pricing it up we decided that we may as well get a Merlin Annual Pass and then we can keep going back. Merlin Annual Passes are great because they include (and are not limited to); Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Dungeons, Sealife centres, Madame Tussauds, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures, London eye and many more places.

As a birthday treat we went to Delamere Forest to go on the segways – at Go Ape Delamere Forest. This meant get the GoPro’s charged and take a good hour to pick what mounts we wanted to use. This is a normal thing whenever we do something, we never pick the same mount, and then later one of us regrets it (this time it was me).

The Go Ape website says:

“Delamere Forest is the largest wooded area in Cheshire, stretching out across over 950 hectares of woodland, wetland and open grassland. And its home to our epic adventure with a down-to-earth twist. Cruise and explore the forest floor on one of off road, our all-terrain, self-balancing electric Segways.”

Yes! The answer is always yes! At least for me it is, I feel that they are necessary for a Disney trip. However, for the last month or so I keep finding more and more that I like and I feel that 20 pairs of Minnie ears is a bit excessive and a waste of money. Therefore I need to cut it down to 3 or 4 MAXIMUM.

The best place to find custom Mickey and Minnie ears is on Etsy.com, there are hundreds of different designs by independent shops and they will customise them if you request. They have everything from Lion King to Moana to Beauty and the Beast and more. You can also get birthday ears, graduation ears or plain colours or sparkles, the list really seems to be endless!

Blackpool’s ‘Ride the Lights‘ is an evening where prom roads are closed to cars and everyone gets on their push bikes. This is a great and safe way to see the Blackpool Lights, and get a bit of exercise!

It’s a fun evening and a great exercise where you don’t feel like you’re exercising because you’re too busy looking at everything going on. Ride the Lights has been going on for 11 years now, and last year was the first time that Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened up as a route for the event. This means that you can actually cycle through the Pleasure Beach.

It’s only 40 miles away for us, and I did my first one last year and really enjoyed it so I made sure I was able to go again this year! I ordered a mount for my GoPro for my bike handles so I can record the ride, and Martin has one for his helmet – we tried doing this last year with one GoPro but ended up taking a good thousand photos instead of recording, but this time we know how they work.

So we decided a month or so ago that we wanted to buy new suitcases. This is because neither of us has bought a suitcase for years and ours are super heavy compared to the new light weight ones. I personally also wanted ones that matched, because I knew I wanted a cabin case as well as a suitcase and they should be the same design for me. So we had to consider, the sizes, weight, design and where we were getting them from.

This holiday has come with a decent amount of planning involved, and somethings – such as booking restaurants – are time sensitive. So we decided to find an app to use that can help us remember when things need to be done etc, but one that we can both us and can both link to. Freedcamp allows us to do this, so if I set up a task but we both have to get it done then I can send it to Martin and he can accept the task, also when it is complete then we will both see that.

Recently, we have been trying to get an 8am reservation for the Be Our Guest restaurant in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, this is difficult to say the least! At first we had been loading the My Disney app or website (this hack works for both!) picking the restaurant and choosing a date. Then under the “Time” drop down menu, we had been choosing “Breakfast” – logic would say that this is an ok thing to do, we want to eat during breakfast, so pick breakfast… but no!

Booking the plane seats, is it really necessary? It’s extra money and there’s a lot to consider, especially with it being an 11 hour flight. You want to be comfortable, know that you can stand up when your legs are getting cramped, watch a film (of your own choice if you decide to take a laptop or tablet). Or do you really care, and just want to pick your seats when you check in for your flight, which can be done up to a month before you fly (at least with Virgin Atlantic). It all depends on how fussy you are really, and who you’re flying with – whether its friends and family or if you’re flying alone.

After booking the holiday there is an option on the Virgin page of our booked holiday that says ‘Book Plane Seats’, once selecting that you see your different options. In a previous post ’11 Hour Flight’ we talked about the costs to Economy, Premium Economy and First Class and the prices and differences that they have.

This is a must get as soon as possible – not because they will sell out or anything, but because I want to hold my Disney ticket! That and Martin wants his Universal ticket – can you tell we’re excited?? Having these tickets is another step closer to our holiday.

For finding the best deal with the tickets, well Google really becomes your best friend! We sat and looked together, I was searching on my laptop and had it showing on the TV screen and Martin was looking on the iPad. We wanted to see who could find the best deal for both Disney and Universal for 14 days, park hoppers.

Planning money is a hard thing as you cannot plan every single moment of the holiday and nor would you want to, however having a good estimate is a great idea so you know just how much to save. It is possibly the number 1 thing as we need to know how much to save each month so that when we get out there we can have a fun and enjoyable holiday without having money worries. I personally work a minium wage job, so knowing how much to save is a priority for me.

After talking about it we decided that we would spend the equivalent of £20 for breakfast, £20 for lunch and £30-40 for dinner – over two weeks this will mean that we will be spending around £980 on food. It won’t always be the case that we eat out, some days we may just have breakfast in our apartment or be too full to have lunch but it is better to over estimate than under estimate and panic when we are out there. As with our Glasgow trip, we will want to just go for dinner and order whatever we want without having to take meal prices into consideration.
